1 John 3:1 says, “Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…” The word love in this verse translates to agape. Agape love is an unconditional love, an unselfish love, the God kind of love. God showed us this agape love by sending His Son for us. Romans 5:8 in the amplified says, “But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.” He gave us His very own Son. It was the most selfless act he could do to bless all of humanity and prove to us how much He loved us.

1 John 3:3 says, “And every man that has this hope in Him purifies himself, even as He is pure.” In verse 2 of this passage, the amplified translation says we resemble Him. Would Jesus walk around with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, drinking a six pack, watching pornography, having sex outside of marriage? No way! Well, because we’ve been bought with such a high price, we are to live like Jesus would live. We are to resemble or in other words, be like Him. We are supposed to live like Jesus would live. I don’t do these things because someone told me I couldn’t. I don’t follow the rules because someone is forcing me to. I don’t live a life of sin because He first loved me! He showed me love when there was nothing about me that was loveable. I was a drinker, a smoker, a druggie, a thief, a bad-tempered, ill-mannered, foul-mouthed broken individual. Yet, Jesus loved me enough to take all my sins on the cross.

God loved me enough to send His Son to endure a death I was meant to face. He sent His Son to take my place that I rightfully deserved. It’s that love that I live for. I laid down all that sinful living to live completely for Jesus because He loves me. I live for Jesus and live holy because of that love. He did it for me just as much as He did it for you, how are you living for Him?
