Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” If faith is what pleases God, then anything besides faith displeases God. The counter to faith is fear. We need to evaluate our lives continually to see if we are in faith or in fear.

If faith pleases God and fear doesn’t, we need to know and understand that fear does not come from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” So many times, we let the spirit of fear guide and direct our steps and lead us instead of the spirit of God. For example, let’s talk about spiders. Many people fear spiders. They scream, cry, and carry on over a spider. People have even lost sleep over them.

Now, do you think that Jesus is afraid of spiders? No. Why not? Jesus has revelation of His God given authority. This same authority has been given to the believer and can be found in Genesis 1:26. If you are born again, then 1 John 4:4 says, “…greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Believers have the Greater One on the inside of them and if He isn’t afraid of spiders, then why should you be? In the same passage, in verse 16, the Bible says, “God is love.” Then verse 18 says, “There is no fear in love…” In other words, there is no fear in God. If we are in God, we are in love and in faith. If you have ever experienced the feelings of fear, they bring torment. We can’t become mature Christians and be in fear.

James 4:7 says, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” From the scriptures we can see that fear is more than just a feeling, it is a spirit, just as we see love is more than a feeling but is God. We have a choice to make, are we going to choose to follow the spirit of fear or of faith?

There are some choices we can make to help influence our decisions to lead us towards faith but there are also choices we make that lead us to fear. Do we spend time seeking the Lord, hearing His voice, studying His Word? If we will do those things, we will know the will of God and won’t get into fear about our lives. Also, our entertainment choices can have a great impact on us. Do we spend our free time filling up on horrors movie, tv shows filled with fear and doubt, listen to music filled with the same? Or do we filter our entertainment? Most people are shocked that it matters but it does. Have you ever seen little boys pretending to be superheroes after seeing it on TV? They are just walking out what they see. If you constantly are seeing and hearing doubt and fear, you will subconsciously begin to walk that out.

Faith isn’t automatic, it is on purpose and a choice. We cannot please God without it, so we must become proactive to weed out all the fear that tries to take faith’s place.
