July 30, 2016 | Leave a comment What is honor? Honor is defined as an attitude that displays a sense of value towards someone or something. Honor is becoming nonexistent in today’s society. Ephesians 6:1-3 says, “Children, obey your parents in The Lord for this is right. HONOR your father and mother which is the first commandment with promise; that it may BE WELL WITH YOU and that you may live long on the earth.” Even as adults, we are all a child of someone. This is a principle that applies to anyone that has authority over us. We see we need to honor our parents. Did you ever consider that dishonoring your spouse could shorten your life and cause things to not be well with you? How about your boss, elders, or people in general? I am a mother of three young boys and I am amazed at the lack of respect and honor in our society. Children are allowed to speak in complete defiance to their parents, their teachers, and anyone that they encounter. Parents that allow this sort of behavior are liabilities to their children, not assets. The bible is very clear in these scriptures that if we are honorable, we will be blessed and live out our lives. The opposite is also true. If we do not live as people of honor, our lives will suffer and may even end prematurely. Married men are at the store flirting with other women, and married women are talking trash about their husbands to their friends. That’s dishonor. Showing up late to work, stealing from the supply closet, lying to your boss; it’s all dishonor. Honor adds quality to a person’s life. The truth is, without honor, we will not honor God and the things He has placed value on. Does the life you’re living honor God? Do you attend a local bible-teaching church faithfully? Do you pray? Do you praise God throughout the day? As you put an emphasis on honor, these things will come naturally. It’s easy to turn away from wrong lifestyles when you strive to be a person of honor. Be honest, no one wants the negative side of these scriptures. Become a person of honor that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.
